ABOUT THIS 3D FIGURINE

The antagonist of Steven King’s novel “It”, devious and vicious killer clown Pennywise, has always intrigued fans with its sophisticated phantasy and clever tricks. Seemingly charming, this accomplished villain took the lives of innocent victims, feeding on their fear, and hunting preferably children as they were more vulnerable. The clown is only a mask, it is  pure evil inside.

Inspired by “It” supernatural horror, our contributive 3D artist presented his diorama of Pennywise with his fellows, ugly scary little clowns. The scene looks absolutely epic, the clowns with circus makeup, bulging eyes, Frankenstein's foreheads and bizzare wigs, can’t but impress with its creativity and charm. We are absolutely sure that it will take a special place in your collection!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Pennywise diorama for 3D printing is a static assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 40 hours. The figurines’ anatomy and proportions were thoroughly reviewed during the moderation process for the characters to be depicted harmoniously in the intended pose.

The model’s cutting was chosen by our team to minimise the amount of generated support and some of the parts were hollowed out for you to save resin in the Eco version. In order to conceal the places where the assembly parts of the diorama are connected, the figurines were cut along the contour of the clowns’ clothes. For you to achieve the cleanest 3D printed result, the characters’ headshandstorso, legs,collars, etc. are provided as separate assembly parts.

All assembly parts of the FFF/FDM versions come in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and so that the 3D printing beginners won’t face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate.

The diorama is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model’s scale was calculated from the height of the Pennywise which is 1930 mm. The 3D printing diorama's chosen scale is 1:8 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:16 for the DLP/SLA/SLS versions.

VERSIONS’ SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:

  • Contains 47 parts;
  • Printed Pennywise diorama is 290 mm tall, 193 mm wide, 193 mm deep;

  • All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:

  • Contains 31 part;
  • Printed Pennywise diorama is 145 mm tall, 96 mm wide, 96 mm deep;
  • All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

DLP/SLA Eco 1.0 version features:

  • Contains 31 part;
  • Printed Pennywise diorama is 145 mm tall, 96 mm wide, 96 mm deep;
  • Some parts are manually hollowed out to save resin.

Below you can find printing recommendations for Cura, Simplify3D, Slic3r and PrusaSlicer software.

Cura Printing Recommendations

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:

- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);

- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;

- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.

Slic3r Printing Recommendations

These basic 3D printing settings recommendations for beginners were tested in Slic3r 1.3.0 software. Test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality Cr-10S pro v2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS, Anycubic Vyper with PLA and PetG filaments.

Note:

- You can upscale your 3D printing models. Downscaling is not recommended - it can make smaller parts of the model unprintable, distort the model’s level of detail and result in assembly issues.

- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill.

- When printing Lock connectors, we recommend setting the “Brim width” parameter to 0 in the "Skirt and Brim" print settings. In that way, the Locks will be 3D printed with a Skirt only.

Extrusion width

You can try setting all parameters in this section, except the First layer, to values between 0.75% of your nozzle diameter and 1.25% of your nozzle diameter. Adjusting them will help you work out the optimal parameters for the best quality for your print. As for the First layer, you can set it to 150% of the diameter of your nozzle for better adhesion to the build plate (for a nozzle with a diameter of 0.4 mm, the First layer extrusion width can be from 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm)

PrusaSlicer Printing Recommendations

These basic 3D printing settings recommendations for beginners were tested in PrusaSlicer 2.3.1.

In order to see all the parameters listed below, you need to enable the Expert mode in the PrusaSlicer’s settings.
