ABOUT THIS 3D FIGURINE

The great leonopteryx is the apex aerial predator of Pandora, the celebrated and feared ”flying king lion" who holds a central place in Na'vi culture. As Jake Sully once said, the beast can be the last shadow one would ever see if they happen to become the creature’s prey thanks to its preferred method of attack - from above. Fascinated by the unworldly appearance of Toruk, the author of the model spent 225 hours to depict minutely the deadly and respected predator. The figurine was created with Toruk’s distinctive razor-sharp crests on the opposite sides of its head and powerful jaws which are slightly opened in a warning. The Last Shadow’s wingspan is not fully revealed though the model’s pose does justice to the unusual membranous wings of the beast. Those three individual finned members on each side are even known to be rotating in the film for the Leonopteryx to induce or retard vortex formation! Each of the figurine’s six limbs has strong talons on the end, perfect for grasping prey. And those twin tails that prolong Toruk’s unusual body are known to be perfect for flight control and high performance. As it is commonly known, in the Na'vi culture, those individuals who manage to make tsaheylu with the Great Leonopteryx are given an honourable title Toruk Makto. The sixth representative of this highly respected title Jake Sully is also available on Gambody for your to complete an awesome 3D printed Avatar diorama!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Toruk is a static assembly figurine and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 68 hours in total. The model’s cutting was chosen by our team to minimise the amount of filament needed for generated support and some of the parts were hollowed out for you to save resin in leonopteryx’ Eco version. The figurine was divided into as many assembly parts as needed to fit even the smallest 3D printers' build plates and for you to nevertheless receive a large winged beast after assembly. In order to receive the cleanest result possible the creature’s jaws were extracted and are now provided as separate parts, as well as the model's large front fang, talons on the end of each limb and strips and sharp crests on the head. All assembly parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out so to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. All parts have special connecting elements for you to assemble the figurine in the easiest way possible and there are locks provided to connect some details if you don’t want to glue the parts.

The figurine is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from Toruk's actual wingspan that is 25146 mm. The 3D printing figurine's chosen scale is 1/32 for the FFF/FDM version and 1/64 for the DLP/SLA/SLS versions.

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
