ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

 "I am consciousness. I am alive. I am Chappie."

Chappie is the titular main protagonist of the 2015 dystopian sci-fi movie, the law enforcement robot gifted with artificial intelligence that mimics a sentimental human. The robot was kidnapped and practically adopted by a pack of gangsters, who guided Chappie through different stages of ageing, taught him how to fight and love, and used the naive creature for dangerous crimes.

Would you have a try at raising a Chappie of your own? Our contributing 3D artist created an immensely detailed and elaborate Chappie 3D Printing Model for you to build the robot in your hobby workshop. Gangster or not, the 3D printed Chappie will be happy to be by your side!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Chappie for 3D printing is an active assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 45 hours in total.

For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible and assemble a fully moveable model, the robot was divided into many assembly parts.

All assembly parts in the FFF/FDM version are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA 1.0 version in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to the Chappie model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model’s scale was calculated from the approximate height of Chappie which is 1800 mm. The 3D printing model’s chosen scale is 1:4 for the FFF/FDM and DLP/SLA versions.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3DSlic3r and PrusaSlicer software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.

Slic3r printing recommendations:

These basic 3D printing settings recommendations for beginners were tested in Slic3r 1.3.0 software. Test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality Cr-10S pro v2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS, Anycubic Vyper with PLA and PetG filaments.

Note:

- You can upscale your 3D printing models. Downscaling is not recommended - it can make smaller parts of the model unprintable, distort the model’s level of detail and result in assembly issues.
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill.
- When printing Lock connectors, we recommend setting the “Brim width” parameter to 0 in the "Skirt and Brim" print settings. In that way, the Locks will be 3D printed with a Skirt only.
