ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

Thank you, friend. You may have saved the galaxy today. I will never forget you

In the early days of the Galactic Civil War, this red white-striped astromech droid R5-D4 belonged to the group of Jawas on Tatooine planet. After 4 years on a sandcrawler, R5-D4 was redeemed by Owen Lars. But driven by the desire to save the fate of the Galaxy and help with the mission of R2-D2, “Red” deliberately sabotaged urging Owen Lars to buy R2-D2 instead. The heroism of the astromech is well-deserved and can not be denied!

Inspired by the prominent Star Wars robot character, our contributing 3D artist made this spectacular model for 3D printing. Printed astromech can be displayed on the Mandalore planet stylised stand. The tunnels in the droid’s body allow to hide a battery inside the model and introduce LED wiring to light up the projector ports. R5-D4 has active elements, its head rotates, legs are articulated and in the hidden compartment there is a retractable grasper arm. We know that you were waiting for R5-D4 and his time has come, enjoy!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

R5-D4 Droid for 3D printing is an active assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 56 hours in total.

For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible, minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support, and make use of the active elements designed by Gambody Engineers, the droid was divided into convenient assembly parts.

All assembly parts in the FFF/FDM 1.0 version are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won’t face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model’s file you will also receive “Assembly Manual” for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA 1.0 versions in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly Video” and “Assembly Manual” before getting down to the R5-D4 model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model’s scale was calculated from the length of the R5-D4 Droid which is 970 mm. The 3D printing model’s chosen scales are 1:4 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:8 for the DLP/SLA version.
